Kevin Magnussen is set to replace Pastor Maldonado at Renault’s new Formula 1 works team for the 2016 season, Autosport has learned.
Sources have confirmed Magnussen is poised to sign a deal over the next few days, before being officially confirmed at Renault’s launch in Paris next Wednesday.
It is believed a very small window of opportunity still exists for the two parties to return to the negotiating table, sign a new deal, and for Maldonado to retain his seat.
It might be true, but I’ll continue holding my breath until they actually make an announcement. When articles start out phrased like that, I stop reading.

All while getting lots of clicks.
They all do it. If they don’t, people will read the premature speculation on a competing site.
A lot of times they are right, but to me it’s annoying since it’s regurgitated as definite news sometimes.

My boss came in here even before I clicked on anything this morning telling me, “Hey, did you hear they fired Maldonado and signed Kevin?”

This is definitely better for everyone in the long run (Pastor included, he just doesn’t know it yet) but I’ll be a little bit sad to not wake up and immediately check for a new crash on Sunday mornings. Maybe he’ll keep racing in something cheaper.
